The Editor, Sir:
With the recent increase in crime and violence in our country, I think all of us as Jamaicans should be concerned about it. I want you all to ask yourself these questions: should I allow the misguided few to tarnish the name of our country? Is the picture that they are painting reflecting your values and beliefs?
I want you all as Jamaicans to remember that we have a moral obligation to act. Act in a way that will restore our country back to its rightful place on the world scene, the land of love, wood and water. And for those who have forgotten the national pledge, I suggest that we refresh our memories and ensure that whatever we do it is always in the back of our minds. Let us all join in the drive and remind our fellow Jamaicans what it really means to be a true Jamaican. Place a copy of our national pledge in some public place so persons can see what is required of us as sons and daughters of Jamaica, land we love.
Brothers and sisters, let us join hands and heart together "so that Jamaica may under God increase in beauty fellowship and prosperity and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race".
I am, etc.,
JODY WHITE
