published: Tuesday | May 27, 2008

Michael Bernard (right), president of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ), presents Calvin Manduna, trade policy analyst at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, with a copy of the history of the SAJ.

Jamaica's flag was again flown high at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show in London, England with the team from the Jamaica Horticultural Society receiving a silver medal for their title display, 'Island Bounty'. The show was held from May 20-24.

While the team has not yet struck gold, Jamaica Producers Shipping (JP), one of the sponsors of the exhibit, is proud of the country's placing.

Congratulations

"Jamaica Producers Shipping is pleased to be associated with the Jamaica Horticultural Society and congratulate the society for its silver place," said Christine Johnston, JP Shipping's sales manager. The company will continue to sponsor the society, Johnston added.

JP Shipping has been a proud sponsor for the past 12 years, providing safe and on-time transportation of props, which is vital to the success of Jamaica's exhibits at Chelsea.

Organised by RHS

Carol Ann Herrera, Microsoft business software partner account manager, engages Michael Bernard (centre), president of the Shipping Association of Jamaica and Grantley Stephenson, chairman of Port Computer Services (PCS), before the launch of the partnership between PCS and Microsoft at the Courtleigh Hotel on May 16.

The 85th annual Chelsea Flower Show was hosted over five days on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, London and was organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. This year, the show had 900 entrants from all over the world, including Jamaica's Caribbean neighbours Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Grenada. Jamaica first entered the exhibit in 1996.

JP Shipping Company is the successor to the Jamaica Banana Producers' Steamship Company, which was founded in 1929. JP Shipping offers fortnightly service to the United Kingdom.
