Is the PM out of touch?
published: Tuesday | June 3, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The murderous rampage that has been going on in Jamaica, for longer than we care to remember, can be stopped, but the Prime Minister will have to muster all the necessary resources to lead the fight, follow the fighters, or get out of the fight.

There is empirical evidence that the political culture of the past 40 years is what has brought us to this point and it will require more than frequent crime-fighting platitudes, from those who believe they have authority, to restore law and order.

It is truly incredible that the Prime Minister would have us believe by his recent statements, that it is the police and not him and his government, who are to be held accountable for the safety and security of the citizenry. Someone needs to enlighten him that, the position of Prime Minister also requires that he continues to enjoy the confidence of the majority of the people, especially those who are of voting age in this country.

Rulers and nations

I believe it is important to remind Mr Golding of what God says in the holy scriptures, in Proverbs, Chapter 29, verse 2, about rulers and nations and then judge himself and the state of the nation accordingly. It clearly states, "when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn".

Maybe Mr Golding needs to take some time off and seriously reflect on his most recent comments, which give the impression of someone, who is out of touch with his constituents, especially the populace who are in mourning, some of whom entrusted him with their vote and the responsibility to once again make Jamaica a peaceful and prosperous nation.

I am, etc.,
