THE EDITOR, Sir:I saw and read with concern, the picture of the NEW MP5 gun and the headline of the story, 'Less deadly police weapons arrive' on page A4 of last Sunday's Gleaner.
In my opinion, this will certainly make for a field day for the gunmen.
Mr Editor, I wish to ask, is the Government obliged to disclose the full facts about this gun that will be used by the majority of the officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF)? Then what will happen to the M16 rifles that are still in the hands of vicious criminals?
Taking gunmen's intelligence for granted
It would seem that those who are in charge of crime detection and suppression have taken for granted that these gunmen are unintelligent and unable to plan strategy.
Imagine, you are going to educate them on the total number of such guns now in the island, the duration of training that will be given before they are out on the road. Mr Commissioner, this is absurd, and so again, I make my plea, don't open the gate any wider for massacre.
Please attack without fanfare, and do not let your enemies know your whereabouts. There is a common parlance, don't let your left hand know what the right hand is doing.
A crime plan yes! But it must be kept within the camp.
I am, etc,
