Happy birthday, dear Liz
published: Friday | June 20, 2008

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

To The Queen! Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall (left) joins British High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell and Dr Barbara Munske in toasting Her Majesty, at The Queen's birthday reception, held at the British High Commission, Trafalgar Road on Monday.

There are some events that everybody who is anybody, simply must attend, and the birthday reception of Her Majesty is one of them.

Guests to the British High Commission might have had to go through security checks but, in the end, it was worth it. English-style fare with soothing chamber music to start the proceedings, guests were soon caught up in the cool evening's atmosphere.

High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell specially welcomed diaspora conference delegates and remembered his former deputy, Paul Nicolopulo, who passed away earlier this year. The highlight of the evening was the four musicians dubbed 'The Beatles' who performed hits from the repertoire of the legendary band. That got some formerly stoic guests moving and grooving to their beat.

Guest list

Guests out included: Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Dr Ken Baugh and wife Vilma, French Ambassador Francis Hurtut, Colombian Ambassador Dr Ventura Emilio Diaz-Mejia, Honduran Ambassador Eduardo Norris, Panamanian Ambassador Ricardo Moreno, St Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner Cedric Harper and wife Dr Barbara Harper, Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner Yvonne Gittens-Joseph, Haitian Charge d'Affaires Max Alce, Senegalese Ambassador Nafissatou Diagne, Ecuadorian Consul Clelia Barreto de Hunter, Igor Hevia.

Also out were Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, Opposition MP Dr Wykeham McNeill, Ambassador Richard Bernal, Ambassador Maxine Roberts and sister Valerie, Paul Issa, Earl and Beverly Levy, Robert MacMillan, Howard Hamilton QC, Kent Pantry, Miriam Maluwa, Richard and Diana Stewart, Prudence Simpson, Vivian Crawford, Mike and Peggy Fennell, Parris Lyew-Ayee Jnr, Commander (retired) John MacFarlane, Yulit Gordon, Michelle Wilson-Reynolds, Hugh and Ouida Dunphy, Audrey Marks, Captain David McRae and Horace Bogues.
