The Gleaner yesterday swept two awards at Caymanas Track Limited's (CTL) Legal Light Awards Luncheon to honour the racing press.

Ainsley 'Jimmie' Walters was awarded the top prize for print media, beating out five other nominees, including Howard Hamilton (The Gleaner), Cliff Williams (The Gleaner), Hurbun Williams (Jamaica Observer) and Vin Lumsden of Sunday Herald.

Walters, who writes a twice-weekly racing preview for The STAR and pens a raceday column, 'Trackside' in the Track and Pools form book, was recognised for being the most outstanding print media contributor, who "consistently enhances the horse racing industry".

Gleaner freelance photographer Colin Hamilton won the top prize for cameramen, emerging tops ahead of fellow nominees Ian Allen (The Gleaner), Joseph Wellington (Jamaica Observer), Michael Sloley (Sunday Herald) and Dennis Coke (unattached).

Other winners included Patrick Anderson for outstanding contribution in the television category. Anderson picked up a second award for programming for his work on 'A Moment with Thoroughbreds', alongside co-host Donovan Wilson, who was a joint recipient.

The Hitz 92 trio of Francisco 'Lenky' Mills, The Gleaner's Orville Clarke and Cliff Williams won the award for most consistent radio contributors, beating out Howard Abrahams of IRIE FM, as well as the 'Turf Talk' crew of Dr Paul Wright, Lindy Delapenha and Maurice Foster from KLAS FM.

However, the KLAS crew grabbed the biggest prize, the Legal Light Award, for its body of work over the last three years.
