Circus circle blank Sharpes Rebels
published: Tuesday | July 1, 2008

Circus Circle emerged 3-0 winners over Sharpes Rebels in the Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) Premier League End of First round men's final at the Mona Astro Turf on Saturday.

Charles Burton scored two goals and Christopher Brown netted the other for a victory that gave the defending champions a two-point lead going into the second round.

Richard Wisdom, coach of Circus Circle, stated that his team regrouped and was confident that it would top the league.

Not difficult

"The competitions were not difficult. Some of our competitors were much younger and more agile but we used our experience to score when we needed to," Wisdom said.

In a fast-paced, action-packed final for the women's crown, Sharpes Rebels rebounded by defeating Tropics 3-2. Rosemarie Campbell, Andrea Hoo-Thomas and Erica May-Chambers scored for Sharpes, while Kemeisha Erskine and Shana-Kay Tullonge scored for Tropics.

The women's division one game between St Andrew and Excelsior resulted in a walk over for St Andrew. The game was blown off as too few players from Excelsior were on hand at the scheduled start.

Raiders United rebounded

Meanwhile, Raiders United rebounded from their loss the previous weekend to score a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). Goalscorers for Raiders United were Garcia Kelly, Brian Brodber and Michael Beach. Marlon Rowe and McCauley McIntosh scored for the JDF.

The JHF Premier League will take a break and will resume with the second round on Saturday, August 9.

Points standings after round one are as follows:

Women's division one - St Andrew 19, Sharpes Rebels 15, Tropics 14, Excelsior 1.

Women's division two - St Andrew 15, Sharpes Rebels 9, Excelsior 7, Tropics 1.

Men's division - Circus Circle 12, JDF 10, Sharpes Rebels 10, Raiders United 9, Combined Colleges 3, Explorers 0.
