Shaw praisedon tax intake
published: Monday | July 28, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I MUST use this venue to congratulate the minister of finance on the great job he has undertaken to collect outstanding taxes owing to the Government of Jamaica through his amnesty programme, in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Department (IRD). Recent reports show that over the first part of the programme 3,000 new taxpayers were added to the IRD, and four billion dollars has been collected. Great job, well done!

Gun amnesty needed

I am hoping the minister of national security will take a page from your book, and have an amnesty and buy-back pro-grammes for all illegal guns on the streets.

Great job, minister. Continue to go after tax dodgers, regardless of what corporate Jamaica wants to say. The massive of Jamaican are on your side. Nationally and internationally.

I am, etc.,
