Barbados top shooting stats

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC):

Barbados took the top positions in the shooting department at the Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) tournament that ended Friday at Arnos Vale.

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls were the best defensive team after conceding just 126 goals from 169 attempts against them in five matches, with T&T (190/250), Barbados (216/287), SVG (231/303) next on the top defensive list.

According to statistics released by the organisers, the Barbadians, who ended the tournament in third position, were adjudged the most accurate shooting team after converting 236 of their 270 attempts.

Conversion rate

This left them with a conversion rate of 87.4 per cent, almost six percentage points ahead of their nearest rivals, Jamaica.

The Jamaicans, who convincingly won the tournament, scored 286 of their 350 attempts for an 81.71 per cent rate.

Hosts St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), who had a disappointing tournament after winning only one of their five matches, were third in the accuracy table after putting away 179 of their 228 shots for a 78.51 per cent conversion rate.

Trinidad and Tobago, who placed second in the tournament, were fourth on the list with 77.00 per cent from scoring 241 of their 313 shots on goal.

The individual list

The Barbados shooter Lydia Bishop topped the individual list with 90.79 per cent after scoring 69 of her 76 attempts. She was followed by her compatriot, Laurel Browne, who scored 113 of her 129 opportunities to finish with an 87.60 per cent rate.

SVG's Skiddy Francis Crick was third with 85.51 per cent, following her 59/69 in the limited action she saw.

T&T's Anastacia Wilson was the most prolific of the shooters, scoring 150 of her 179 attempts for an 83.80 per cent conversion rate.

St Lucia's Shem Maxwell 83.33 per cent (115/138), Barbadian Nikita Piggott 83.08 per cent (54/65), with Jamaica's trio of Simone Forbes 82.73 per cent (91/110), Christina Solmon 82.50 per cent (66/80) and Crystal Gordon 82.40 per cent (103/125) rounding out the players in the 80 per cent range.

Wilson had the top average for goals per game with 30 goals per game and was followed by Browne and Maxwell with 23, and Hope and Gordon with 21. Forbes was next with 18 goals per game.
