The West Indies senior women's cricket tournament which was slated to be held in Jamaica between August 1-17 has been postponed by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) said yesterday.
The availability and cost of airfare were the reasons cited for the postponement. The tournament is likely to be held in either St Vincent or St Lucia between August 14 -24.
The JCA statement further added: "Jamaica would not be able to find comparable and affordable accommodation later in August (due to the return of students to the tertiary institutions)."
The release also stated that Guyana would have been unable to participate this weekend because of the unavailability of flights from that country.
Eight teams are scheduled to participate - Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Dominica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
Following the tournament, a 22-member squad will be chosen to begin preparation for the ICC Women's World Cup in Australia in February and the inaugural Women's World Twenty/20 Cup set for England next July.
