Harbour View United extended a remarkable spell of dominance with a 2-1 win over rivals Waterhouse, for a fifth consecutive hold of the Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knockout Trophy, at the UWI Bowl yesterday.
"All credit to the girls, they did what they had to do. We knew Waterhouse were coming for it, they ran hard against us, it's always that kind of game when the teams meet," said Harbour View coach, Vin Blaine.
"They really came to play today so we had to remain focused and I think we did a good enough job of that today," he added.
Despite beginning the game on the offensive, the Stars of the East were not rewarded for their industry until a 30th minute corner, which saw Jennifer Wallace put the ball into the goal from a resulting scuffle in front of goal.
Taneisha Vassel then broke the tightly contested game wide open in the 57th minute, when she drifted into the area before firing home from close.
Trailing by two goals, Water-
house began to dominate possession but always looked in danger of being caught on the counter by the defending champions and Harbour View substitute Samantha Kinglock managed to find the goalkeeper with her shot no more than six yards away from goal in the 70th minute and while breaking away twice, Shanique Mitchell hit both of her shots over the crossbar.
Consolation goal
Christina Mitchell secured a consolation goal for Waterhouse in the 80th minute, when her free kick just outside the area curled away from diminutive custodian Kerise Heywood and into the goal.
"I think we were a bit lacklustre in the way that we came out, we just made too many mistakes and lost possession," said Waterhouse coach Xavier Gilbert.
"We made a couple of adjustments and I think we played a lot better in the second, but overall it was just a case of us taking too long to get into the game," he added.
