Young Reggae Girlz destroy Aruba
published: Monday | August 4, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Peola Caine scored a hat-trick in the space of three minutes as Jamaica began their hunt for the inaugural Caribbean Football Union Girls Invitational Championship crown with a 13-0 demolition of Aruba Saturday.

Despite the hot and humid conditions, the young Reggae Girlz rained goals on their opponents in a lopsided affair at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

The match was scheduled for Friday at Queen's Royal College Ground, but was postponed due to the waterlogged field after some heavy midday showers.

Natani Traill fired in the first goal in the 19th minute after which the Aruba goalkeepers Jozynne Cietersz and substitute, Norann Tromp were kept busy between the uprights.

Renee Freeman made it 2-0 two minutes later, before Trudi Carter (27th & 35th), Caine (38th, 39th, 40th) and Shenika Williams (42nd) extended the lead to 8-0 at the half-time whistle.

Tromp replaced Cietersz eight minutes into the second-half, but she did not fare any better as the goals continued to rain. Jamaica got a double from Chantal Gelly and one each for Shuraffadeean Thomas, Shanice Foster and Camille Hill to extend their dominance.
