NOTE-WORTHY

Happy Independence!

I received an email from my friend which I have quoted below:

"On the 46th anniversary of Independence of the land of our birth let's keep praying for our country. Yes, we have to keep praying for our country, the land of our birth that we love so much.

"We are now residents/citizens of the United States and wish like others to make Jamaica our retirement home, but with the crime factor, we are very fearful!

"Whatever it is that we have to do to make our island a safe place, not just for us but for all residents (poor, middle class and rich) to unite and make our island a safe place to call home we are willing to help. God bless you, Father Ho Lung, I've supported your cause from the days of Aquinas Centre!"

Focus on good

As a Jamaican living in New York, I read The Gleaner daily. It's always refreshing to read the positive stories of things that occur in Jamaica, the land of my birth and place that prepared me to be a successful professional and God-fearing person.

Thanks to all the wonderful Jamaicans who go about their business daily with grace and compassion. Jamaica is still a wonderful place. Focus on the good, there is more of it than we know ...

Astronomy

Hello, my name is Alicia Harriott, a high school student who is seeking a scholarship to aid myself with finance to attend college. I have done 11 CXC subjects, and I am confident that I am going to pass all of them.

I have predicted and hope that I will get at least seven in grade one and the rest in grade two and three. I want to go to college in order to do my A Level, mainly to attend the University of Waterloo, because I want to pursue a career in astronomy.

Strong message

This is a response to yesterday's 'Diary of a Ghetto Priest'.

Dear Rev Father Richard Ho Lung,

Thank you very much for your lovely Gleaner article. It has a very strong spiritual message.

We must all convert our messages into actions. Mother Teresa is a good example of what I mean in today's world. Of course, we have different things to offer.

My offering is writing. I'd like if you could read Broken Gourds. You can get a copy from the library. If you think that the message of the book relates to what you are doing, I can offer free copies to your organisation.

You can get an overview of the book at: www.anancybooks.com. From the Home Page, click Authors. Please let me know your interest.
