The Editor, Sir:
Permit me space to add some light and support to Pastor Phillips' plea for road repairs in Portland as published in The Gleaner.
Portland, as everyone knows, is quite peaceful and beautiful. For years, the roads in Portland have remained deplorable. Even in the Rio Grande valley, a farming area, the roads are always neglected.
I am confident that the member of parliament, Dr Rhodd, took this up with the former ruling party time and time again without much success. I am sure he did the same with the present party. Why should they listen when the vote is well assured regardless of the condition of the roads.
We thank the reverend for speaking up for Stony Hill. Since the peaceful people of Portland must remain on the back burner, then I ask the reverend to pray harder. Maybe someone will listen to the MP and pity the peaceful people of Portland.
I pray that we do not need another committee to investigate the road conditions in Portland.
Reverend Phillips must be commended for asking for help for what he must endure until his prayers are heard.
I am, etc.,
