THE EDITOR, Sir:

I REFER to the public affairs article by Mr Claude Clarke in The Sunday Gleaner of August 10, and, through your columns, ask the Government to make an official statement on the matter indicating whether Mr Clarke's statements are considered accurate or not.

The claims by Mr Clarke are too alarming to go unnoticed. It is cause for grave concern and reminds me of when the question of Federation was in the air there was a cartoon by the late Leandro depicting Jamaica as a sow lying down and the other Caribbean islands as pigs sucking its nipples; the sow uttered, "You are sucking me dry".

Of course, the government of the day, PNP, was annoyed at the insinuation and issued an apology to the other islands. Is this prophecy fulfilled?

I am, etc.,

A. JAMES
