Life flashes by
published: Tuesday | August 19, 2008

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

Lifestyle team members having fun at my expense (from left): Nashauna Drummond, Sacha Walters and Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore after we got to the top of Mystic Mountain. Talk about a lamb to the slaughter!

There are times in life when all the things you did wrong, or didn't do at all, flash before your eyes.

That's what happened on the Mystic Mountain excursion. Of course, I'm afraid of heights so this was a bad idea from the beginning! And, of course the quickest way to get to the top is by using the Sky Lift Explorer. Terrific!

Falling

Less than half-way up, arms firmly clasped around the supporting bar, I get that 'let me off' feeling! With every shudder of the seat, the scaredy puss in me began visualising a fall to certain death! Looking at the sea to my left, and the foliage, to my right, didn't help They only reminded me how high up I was! I literally kissed the ground after 'landing'!

My nerves somewhat restored I decided to try the bobsled'. The Sky Lift was slow torture. This was fast-paced! The sight of the track hurtling toward me freaked me out. I maintain, I didn't scream like 'a little girl' but I did look like a deer in the headlights!

The fear

Reluctantly, I agreed to go on the Zip Line (not smart). As I look back now, I realise the chance of falling is very low because of all the equipment that keeps you secured to the cables. But, all I could think about was my wingless body falling, with nothing to break my fall but plenty to break my bones.

My blood pressure is still normal and I survived, but this was a once in a lifetime event, 'cause I ain't going back!
