West Indies coach says team ready to go
published: Tuesday | August 19, 2008

Dyson

TORONTO, Canada (CMC):

WEST INDIES coach John Dyson said yesterday his side was settled and ready to do battle in the Tri-Nation Series.

The regional side, which left the Caribbean on Friday, will play its first match of the series tomorrow when it faces Bermuda.

"The guys acclimatised quickly to the temperature and the conditions. Everyone looks comfortable at the moment," the Australian said after the team's three-hour training session.

"The nets went smoothly and I would have to say we feel good to be here in Canada.

We went through today's session without much bother. The players got a chance to be out in the centre and to get fit and ready and into 50-over mode," he said.

The West Indies are using the tournament, which also involves the hosts, as a buildup for the ICC Champions Trophy which begins next month.

Good cricket

Dyson said he believed the tournament, along with several other warm-up matches that have been scheduled, would leave the team in good stead for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

"We are looking to play good cricket out here. We are looking to beat them both (Canada and Bermuda) and move on to the Champions Trophy," Dyson pointed out.

"Before the Champions Trophy, we have these three matches up here and two warm-up games in Pakistan (against Sri Lanka and New Zealand). So we have five matches to tune up as a team and get totally ready and focussed on the Champions Trophy."

The Windies will meet Canada in their second match on Friday. The two best teams will qualify for the final on Sunday.
