Revisit underground wiring
published: Saturday | September 6, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The suggestion in your Friday editorial, 'Case for under-ground electrical wiring', that the matter be more closely examined makes sense.

The notion that a major capital investment far outweighs recurrent spending to fix damaged cables almost yearly is not enlightened - unless you have the contract to supply the replacement parts or do the repairs.

I am sure there are business and residential areas in Kingston where lines are underground.

The way forward is for municipalities/parish councils, including the KSAC, to require new developments to include underground cabling in their plans. The rest can be tackled over time.

I am sure underground cabling would also reduce the incidence of stealing electricity from overhead lines.

I am,etc.,
