Rudolph Speid - File
RUDOLPH SPEID began his two-year term as president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) following Thursday's night Biennial congress at the Heart Trust head office on Oxford Road.
Speid gained the post unopposed after former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast withdrew his nomination.
The meeting began with only the post of second vice-president being contested as all the others had been filled.
However, incumbent Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis suffered a surprise defeat to Jacqueline Cowan. Dennis, who had held the post for the past three 15, lost by 11 votes (49-38).
After the votes were counted, one member of the congress was shouting on his phone, "him lose, yeh man him just lose".
After this, Dennis made a hasty retreat to the exit and refused to talk to the media on his way out. Cowan, who is the former chairman of Meadhaven United, said she was delighted for the opportunity to serve KSAFA.
"I am happy that I can make a positive contribution to football," said Cowan.
"However, at the same time I am a bit saddened because Dennis has given a lot to football over the years and to beat a stal-wart like him is bitter sweet," she said.
Stephen Bell is first vice-president. He replaces Harbour View's chairman, Carvel Stewart. Tivoli's general manager, Brian Rose, who previously served as assistant treasurer is the new treasurer.
Errol Howlett will be Rose's assistant. Gregory Simms is the new general secretary. He will be assisted by Felix Porter.
