The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) says it is adhering to strict deadline guidelines for schools to submit School Based Assessments (SBAs) and Internal Assessments for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).
Several Jamaican students are yet to get results for their CSEC and CAPE examinations. It has been reported that CXC did not get their SBAs.
Submission of late work
"Some schools have consistently submitted their records and evidence of the work done, late, sometimes in July and August. Some of the schools asked for samples, have not complied," CXC said in a statement on Monday.
According to the examination body, the Final Awards Committee of the Council decided, several years ago, that candidates, whose SBA records and coursework were not received by August 15, should be reported as "ungraded".
The deadline for submission of CSEC records of assessment, and evidence of the work done, to the Local Registrar in Jamaica, the Overseas Examination Commission, is April 15 and, for CAPE, May 15.
CXC said the number of late submissions have grown to such an extent that they now put an "intolerable burden" on the staff working to release the examination results as early as possible.
Said the statement: "Mindful that the acceptance of the increasing number of late submissions is making a mockery of the deadlines, is making plain the inequity of, in effect, giving large numbers of candidates extra time to do assignments, is increasing the cost of processing the examinations and delaying the release of candidates' results, the Final Awards Com-mittee decided, at its meeting on August 5, to adhere strictly to the deadlines."
In extenuating circumstances, said the examination body, consideration might be given to accepting records and samples on payment of a normal late fee of BDS$50.
