Hinds shines but team falls short
published: Monday | September 15, 2008

Wavell Hinds - file

LONDON, England (CMC):

West Indians Pedro Collins and Wavell Hinds made headlines for their teams in England's Pro40 Division Two cricket championship on Saturday.

Collins snared three wickets to help Surrey beat Leicestershire by 33 runs, and Hinds smashed a shot-filled half-century for Derbyshire but they lost to Warwickshire by 29 runs.

Batting first at The Oval, Surrey scored 204 for five off their 40 overs with Chris Murtagh getting a top score of 74.

Leicestershire tumbled to 171 all out off 36.5 overs, with Collins helping to stifle them.

Three wickets

The Barbadian pacer claimed three wickets for 21 runs in eight overs and Jade Durnbach polished off the tail with four for 28.

Surrey's high-profile overseas signing, Shoaib Akhtar, performed the 12th-man duties in the game.

Warwickshire beat Derbyshire at their home ground after they compiled 229 for five off their 40 overs, mainly through an unbeaten 111 from Tim Ambrose.

Hinds threatened to propel Derbyshire past Warwickshire's total with a blistering knock.

The Jamaican left-hander struck 84 off 97 balls, with six fours and five sixes.

When Hinds was eighth out, 16 short of a hundred, Ian Salisbury (4-28) wrapped up the innings to give Warwickshire victory.

Meanwhile, Essex secured the Pro40 Division Two title with a four-wicket win over Kent at Canterbury.
