Defending champion Jamaica College (JC) recorded their first victory of the season in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel-sponsored competition, whipping Mona High 5-1 in come-from-behind 5-1 fashion at Mona yesterday.

In the day's other games, former champions Kingston College, led by a six-timer from former national Under-17 player, McKauley Tulloch, whipped Kingston High 9-0; Vauxhall beat Denham Town 3-0; Bridgeport stopped St Jago 2-0; Eltham eased past Cumberland 3-0; St Andrew Technical got by Edith Dalton James 3-0; José Marti edge Innswood 2-0; Penwood defeated St Catherine 1-0; and Wolmer's and Jonathan Grant played to a 1-1 draw.

Scorers

The champions' victory was set-up by a brace from De Andre Brown (52nd and 77th).

Omar Teape (50th), Ashani Walker (80th) and Adrian Christian (82nd) were the other scorers for J.C., while Ashani Oliphant scored for Mona in the 32nd minute.

Despite the victory, J.C.'s coach Alfred Henry wasn't satisfied.

"It was a horrible game," he said, "But it is still early season and so we just have to build on the positives and see what can happen before the second round starts."

He added: "We were getting some good chances in the first half and I know that as long as we stayed calm and play football in the simpliest form then we know that the goals would have come."

Keith Lattimore, coach of Mona, said: "I told my players at half-time that JC were going to come at us in the first 15 minutes, and they did, and we just couldn't cope under the pressure.

"JC is a lot more rounded team than us because they are the defending champions," Lattimore added.
