Peter Keyes made it a memorable start for Boys' Town in the 2008-09 Digicel Premier League, when he scored in time-added to beat neighbours Arnett Gardens 1-0 at Boys' Town yesterday.

The diminutive Keyes, who had been working overtime all game against much bigger defenders, collected a left-sided cross from Shawn McKoy and rounded defender Craig 'Warlord' White in the area before booting past Joel Messam.

"Peter Keyes did an admirable job out front alone today," said Boys' Town coach Andrew Price. "He has a good fighting spirit and that's one of the reasons why we put him out there and his industry paid off in the last minute of the game."

Keyes received a verbal lashing from the fans throughout the game for his inability to unlock the defence, but remained persistent and came close around the 75th minute when a header just missed the crossbar.

After a dour first half, both teams picked up the pace in the second period and Arnett matched Boys' Town's attacking aggression with substitutes Horace Sharpe and Michael Dixon looking to break the deadlock.

Arnett Gardens should have been leading 2-0 at half-time as former Village United striker Leon Irving got two golden opportunities. At the 20th minute, a neat combination of passes from Cornel Chin-Sue to Kevin Wilson to Irving saw the latter hit the post from inside the 18-yard box.

Terrific pass

About 20 minutes later, Irving failed to do justice to another terrific pass from Wilson. After collecting a long ball from Anthowe Dawkins, Wilson headed right into the path of Irving, who found himself with ample space and time at the edge of the 18-yard box, only to kick straight at Porter.

Those misses were more costly, following Keyes last-minute winner.

"Arnett Gardens came on the defensive end not to concede a goal seeing we are away from home and it's in added time that we fell short," commented Arnett Gardens' coach Jerome Waite.

"But we can take some good pointers from this game. We created numerous chances so finishing is something we have to work on and our concentration needs to improve."

At half-time, Omar Davies, member of parliament for South St Andrew, the constituency where both clubs are located, presented Boys' Town and Arnett Gardens with $1 million each to help with their operational costs.
