A new dish from China Express, shrimp in coconut Thai sauce served with white rice, will make its way on the restaurant's KRW menu.
There's more than one reason to celebrate at China Express these days.
Apart from another year in the highly popular Kingston Restaurant Week (KRW), the restaurant's owners are also marking the 10th anniversary.
Bruce Chang, general manager at China Express, expressed some surprise at the restaurant's success.
"We started with four tables, our landlord helped us advertise because he liked the food, so he told his friends." The word-of-mouth strategy got things rolling and that was all the publicity they needed. As the clientele has grown, so has the space and the infrastructure, giving the modern Chinese-style restaurant more than a foothold on the Chinese/fine-dining mountain.
This is China Express' third year in KRW. But Chang said that during the KRW week, he saw how slow business was for them and decided to get on board the next year. He admitted that 2006 (the first year they participated) was a better year for the restaurant when KRW swung around, but he proudly stated they still have an amazing menu.
"We're not just going for regular dishes like sweet-and-sour chicken. We're going for more extensive dishes," he said.
He also said that KRW was good advertising and was a good way of giving back to the customers.
