The Editor, Sir:My greatest fear is that Jamaicans have become so insen-sitive and accustomed to the pronouncement of gruesome crimes that we as a people are not alarmed any more when a horrible crime is committed. If my assessment is true, then we are lost as a nation.
How else can I describe this situation when it is reported that a nine-month-old baby boy had been molested and killed just recently, and there is no indication of a massive outcry from the public? This is preceded by the news that a little 11-year-old girl met the same fate.
Enough is enough
We as a nation of 2.7 million are now told that 57 children have been killed since the start of the year. What else are we waiting to see happen to let the Government and the authorities realise that enough is enough?
The people of Jamaica need to put a stop to this madness. Now is not the time to be cowering in fear. The next victim could be you or your child. We need to let the authorities know that we are sick and tired of our innocent children being murdered on a daily basis while we go about our business.
I am, etc.,
