Performer of the week: Palmer sparks 'Stars'
published: Saturday | October 4, 2008

Lovel Palmer ... struck twice for Harbour View against Meadhaven on Sunday. - File

MIDFIELDER LOVEL Palmer's brace in a 2-1 win over Meadhaven on the weekend not only prevented his team, Harbour View, from dropping points for a second game in a row, but lifted the 'Stars of the East' into an early lead in Digicel Premier League (DPL).

Although still early in the season, the double strike earned the 24-year-old The Gleaner's Performer of the Week mantle.

Palmer flashed across the area to give Harbour View the lead in the 24th minute. With five minutes to go to half-time, Meadhaven, a team that has showed a great amount of determination since joining the league this season, pulled level from the spot.

However, just when things seemed headed for a draw, a shot which looked more like a cross from Palmer flew over the head of the Meadhaven goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

With almost all the teams in the DPL highlighting the importance of a good start this season, Palmer's goal, intentional or not, saw Harbour View celebrate the points.

Palmer was a feature of the national team last year under then Serbian technical director Velibor Milutinovic.

"I've been scoring goals like that every day in training - day in and day out - and today it paid off," Palmer told The Gleaner.
