WESTERN BUREAU:

ELEVEN-TIME champions Cornwall College pumped some additional energy into their inter-zone aspirations yesterday when they scored an important 3-1 win over Green Pond High in their Zone A ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup fixture at Jarrett Park.

In a game in which the Cornwall College team benefitted significantly from the inept performance of their opponents, the Dr. Dean Weatherley-coached team got its goals through Mikhail Weatherley, Horrraine Lewis and Winston Wilkenson.

"Our fate is in our own hand," said Weatherley, whose team remains third in the group behind St. James High (20) and Maldon (18). "We just need to win our remaining games including our clash against Maldon and we should be okay."

In the most important game in the group, Maldon clipped Irwin (10) by a 2-1 margin, which was enough to keep them four points clear of Cornwall College and in with a clear shot at one of the group's two inter-zone places.

Out-of-contention Herbert Morrison (five) had a 1-0 win against Spot Valley (four).
