A Red Cross salute
published: Friday | October 10, 2008

President of Jamaica Red Cross, Dr Jaslin Salmon (left), raps with past chairman of the Kingston and St Andrew chapter, Abe Kawass.

The Jamaica Red Cross representatives welcomed one of its brethren last Thursday.

Sir Nicholas Young, CEO of the British Red Cross, was the honoured guest at a reception held by Jeremy Cresswell, British High Commissioner to Jamaica.

Sir Nicholas is special guest of the local Red Cross as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.

High Commissioner Cresswell marvelled at those who give freely of themselves at the Red Cross, outside of their day jobs.

Sir Nicholas pointed out that the Jamaica Red Cross was one of the strong ones among the 86-member group, and that it was spawned from the British organisation. He revealed that he had visited Jamaica nearly 40 years ago and felt humbled to return to share in the celebration festivities.
