As the tension builds ahead of today's 2010 World Cup qualification clash between CONCACAF giants Mexico and the Reggae Boyz at the National Stadium, a new theme song is set for the airwaves.
And, according to Arlene Sinclair, marketing manager of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), the idea to come out with We Come Again 2010, is to lift the spirits of the supporters ahead of Jamaica's quest to repeat history.
"Well, the aim is to rally support for the team with the fans and add to the vibes. That is the primary function of this project, and I think we will accomplish that," said Sinclair.
During the '98 World Cup campaign in France, the Reggae Boyz created history when they became the first English-speaking Caribbean country to qualify for the tournament. Back then, Rise Up was rang throughout the island.
But Sinclair said it is time for a change.
"When you want to revive something, you must change. Why get stuck in a rut?" she said.
The marketing manager said that the song was catchy and on hearing it it had her dancing.
Known acts
It features several know acts including Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley and Craig (of Voicemail) and was produced and co-authored by Mike Bennett as well as Makeehan Soloman, Roslyn William and Gary Moulton.
Sinclair said that despite the song's late release, it was professionally done given the cadre of experienced musicians that worked on making it.
"It's the theme song for the campaign. The timing was just pure coincidence because we were trying to pull together different ideas about what the song should represent and how it should be positioned," she said.
"We have been working on it since summer... we took some time just to make sure everything was correct."
