Bitter murder case put off
published: Wednesday | October 15, 2008

The case of Kingston businessman, 42-year-old Stephen Bitter, who is charged with the murder of his 90-year-old grandfather, has been put off to allow the defence to source an expert witness.

Bitter's case, which came before the Home Circuit Court on Monday, has been set for mention on November 7.

The case was set for trial Monday, but was put off following an application by defence lawyer Ravil Golding.

Golding told the court that efforts were being made to get a forensic pathologist to testify for the defence.

Justice Kay Beckford granted the application and extended Bitter's bail.

It was first reported that Ronald Bitter, the grandfather, had fallen and hurt himself at his home in Mona Heights, St Andrew.

A post-mortem revealed that his ribs were broken and his liver damaged. The injuries were consistent with severe beating, the report stated.

The Crown is alleging that on September 16, 2003, Stephen Bitter battered his grandfather, resulting in his death.
