Issue: Adults leading the vulgarity
published: Saturday | October 18, 2008

At no time, in the history of Jamaica, has there ever been such moral decay, degradation, obscenity and selfishness as it is now. Who are responsible?

I am putting the blame on us adults, men and women. Can children write dirty lyrics, produce dirty movies, plays which depict the worst side of life?

Disgusting portrayal

Some plays use the worst language, the most vulgar expressions, boisterous confrontations and, yet, some people find them hilarious.

When we read the various news media and see some of the pictures which are highlighted, they are nothing short of disgusting.

Men and women are portrayed dancing stuck together in various sexual positions.

Some of our women have lost pride in themselves. Breasts and other private parts are no longer private. Near-nudity is the order of the day.

Who buys the expensive cellphones, video games, CDs, brand name clothes, shoes, school bags and other things?

Who allows the children to think that they must have what other people have, and not be contented with what they can afford?

Set better examples

Adults need to set better examples for the children and take back the reins of society form the deprived and depraved hurry-come-ups.

Let us, as adults, look into ourselves and each person determine to make a change, if not for ourselves, for our children and for our country, Jamaica.

- Orlean B. Montague.
