The Nurses' Association of Jamaica (NAJ) has resubmitted the reclassification document to the Government for further review.NAJ president Edith Allwood-Anderson told The Gleaner that the Government had proposed six job levels, while her association has asked for seven.
Allwood-Anderson said nurses, at an extraordinary general meeting held yesterday, examined the document. The NAJ called the meeting to update its members, following a meeting with the Ministry of Finance last Thursday.
Allwood-Anderson said when the reclassification process is complete, nurses would begin salary negotiations.
The NAJ did not sign the Public Sector Memorandum of Understanding and delayed plans to present a wage claim to the Government for the period 2008-2010.
"The nurses are getting weary. We didn't know that we would be at the beginning (of the reclassification process). We are expecting that this would be accepted," Allwood-Anderson told The Gleaner.
Nurses yesterday also voted unanimously to continue receiving the subsistence allowance from the Government. The nurses had last week threatened action if this allowance was removed.
