THE EDITOR, Sir:I AM a 16-year-old student of a traditional high school who, over the years, has witnessed more than enough violence to make anyone afraid to walk the streets of Jamaica. It has become sickening. I have seen people stab people in front of crowds, and no one does anything about it. I am tired of watching innocent people die for silly reasons. I'm tired of seeing little children found dead on the news.
Dismal future
I do not know where the country is headed and, in my opinion, it is going nowhere good. People cannot report crimes they witness because they are afraid that the officers they speak to will reveal what they have done to the gunmen. When is this going to stop? When will these people pay for what they have done? Who will stand up for the children?
What kind of future can I look forward to if the crime rate continues to climb? I'm tired of hearing that things are going to change, it is about time I see the changes.
I am, etc.,
