Nicholas McCreath netted twice to get August Town off to a winning start in the Western Union KSAFA Jackie Bell KO competition, following a 3-1 win over Santos in the feature game at the UWI Bowl on Saturday.
McCreath, the former Harbour View Football Club Premiership striker, came off the bench after the interval to play a big part in his team's fortunes, as they were trailing 1-0 at half-time.
Ramar Brown got the lone goal for Santos, but his team-mate Paul Campbell, had the misfortune of being credited with an own goal.
Penalty shoot-out
In other games, Whitfield Town got the better of Allman/Woodford by winning a 3-2 penalty shoot-out at the St Andrew Technical High School field. The game ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time.
It also took another closely contested penalty shoot-out for University of Technology (UTech), who triumphed 4-3 to get the better of New Kingston, following another 1-1 normal and extra-time draw at UTech.
The day's other game, which was expected to see Stony Hill take on Shortwood at the Golden Spring Community Centre, did not get under way due to inadequate security.
The competition will continue tomorrow with three games expected to take place.
In the day's feature, Olympic Gardens will host Barbican at the Cling Cling Oval. In other games, Police National will host Mountain View, while Maxfield Park will host Island Special Constabulary Force .
Harbour View are the current title holders but themselves and the other Premier League teams will not take part in competition until it reaches the fifth round.
The purse for the winner of this year's competition is $350,000, the runners-up $200,000 and the third-place team $100,000, identical to last year.
However, this year's competition has achieved a first, following a television deal with TVJ Sports network. This will see selected games broadcast delayed on the television station.
