Top seeds in NBL play-offs fighting to avoid elimination
published: Tuesday | October 21, 2008

The top-two seeds in the KFC National Basketball League (NBL) will be fighting to avoid an early elimination in two Game Three encounters in the NBL quarter-finals at the National Stadium court this evening.

In the first game at 6 p.m., second-seed Port Royal Bulls face former two-time champions St George's Slayers (seventh seed). At 7:45, champions Urban Knights, who were unbeaten until they lost Game Two 77-66 on Sunday, face eighth-seed Runnin' Rebels.

Apart from the 20-point blowout in Game One on Thursday, Rebels have been Knights' fiercest competitors all season. In the two preliminary round games, Knights won on the final shot as Rebels brought their 'A' game against the league's best. Rebels now have the opportunity to create one of the biggest upsets of all time by eliminating Knights and advancing to the semi-finals.

Slayers extend season

Another 20-plus game from Lynford 'Shootie' Brown will be needed to pull it off while Urban Knights are at their best when point guard Javon Bailey plays well.

The 2005 and 2006 champs, St George's Slayers, also extended their season after battling to an 86-80 Game-Two win against Bulls on Saturday night. The real challenge now is taming the Bulls for a second consecutive game.

Tivoli Wizards and Majesty Gardens have already advanced to the semi-final. Tivoli will play the winners of the Bulls/Slayers series while either Knights or Rebels will play Majesty Gardens.
