Buchanan's challenge

Donald Buchanan's challenge of the finance minister's statement of fact that the current Government is obliged by contract law to honour good-faith agreements made by the former Government in regards to the teachers' wage settlement, etc., is, at least, disingenuous.

Buchanan has the right to be active in his criticism of the Government. In fact, it is his duty as a member of the opposition party, but what he is doing is playing on the ignorance of his constituency (the undereducated) by appearing to apply common-sense logic to Shaw's assertion.

Responsible

By saying: "Mr Shaw still does not realise that Bruce Golding and the JLP form(ed) the Government of Jamaica", and are, therefore, responsible for all that has occurred since then, may sound logical to the unenlightened.

However, as Buchanan himself knows the true facts and, instead, feeds the lies to the people, it tells you just how much he loves his party above the people of the country.

Just sad politicking, Mr Buchannan.

E10 not cheaper

With the rolling out of E10 on November 1, the energy minister said it will cost $2 less than 87 octane. I think this is a new gas tax imposed on the motoring public. Why?

E10 will reduce gas mileage by five to 10 per cent. Two dolars cannot compensate for the drop in mileage.

E10 would have to be priced at 10 per cent less than 87 octane for it to be viable to the consumer.

Come on, Minister Mullings, speak to the public on this issue.

Road impassable

I write to bring to the attention of the Minister of Works, Mike Henry, the deplorable condition of the Mount Rose main road in South East St Mary. Since the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav, the roadway has become impassable to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Students from communities such as Platfield, Mount Vernon and Clarke Castle, who attend the Paisley All-Age School, are unable to attend school because of the break away of this roadway. Please note that this roadway is the alternate route from Temple Hall through Lawrence Tavern, Border to Richmond, when the Junction main road is impassable, between Temple Hall and Tom's River.
