  • Kellits, Edwin Allen atop Road Race Series

With the staging of the Clarendon Crime Prevention 10K run last Sunday in May Pen, Kellits High, little known before this year, maintain the lead position in the Burger King-sponsored Jamdammers road race Grand Prix series.

They are marginally ahead of their closest rivals Edwin Allen High, 27 to 26, with Holmwood in third spot on 24 points.

Coach Calvin James who is in charge of the northern Clarendon school's team had this to say when asked of his new-look squad: "It is a combination of several things, basically some hard work and dedication from the athletes and myself as I identified a few like Christopher James, Daniel Robinson and Sanjay Pantry and spent some extra time with them and now I am seeing the results."

He added: "With the group led by Laurie Foster visiting us frequently and meeting with the athletes, they realised that something was happening for them and their enthusiasm increased after the visit from the three-time Olympian Delloreen Ennis-London. After her motivational talk, many more athletes turned out to training. They appeared to have been inspired by what she had to say."

On the female side, the more fancied Edwin Allen are ahead with 28 points, one ahead of Holmwood, another traditional team.
