Say minority, not opposition party
published: Monday | November 3, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I THINK we all will agree that it is impossible to get unity while opposing yet, strange as it may seem, that is what we, as a nation, have been trying to do for a long time.

Our political system is already so divisive yet we continue to refer to the minority in Parliament as the opposition. Hence, they perceive their role in government as just to oppose.

Perhaps we might just get closer to our goal of unity by starting to refer to the party that has not got the majority as the minority party, and not as the opposition.

I am, etc.,

VAL MORRIS
