Georges lynch Arnett
published: Monday | November 3, 2008

Gareth Davis Sr, Gleaner Writer

BUFF BAY, Portland:

Goals from Daniel Shaw in the 53rd minute and defender Ricardo Taylor in the 65th, earned St Georges a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Arnett Gardens in the Digicel Premier League game at Lynch Park, Buff Bay, yesterday.

Arnett were reduced to 10 players when Shane Edwards was ejected in the 35th minute for a dangerous tackle on Barrington James in a scoreless first half.

St Georges were rewarded for their attacking efforts in the 53rd minute when a build-up between Davis, Denroy Dennis and Shaw broke through Arnett's defence and ended with the latter firing home a right-footer from inside the 18-yard box for a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after, player/coach of Arnett, Fabian Davis, came on replacing Ajuran Brown in the 63rd minute, which saw his team picking up the pace.

However, St Georges went further ahead from a free kick played to Taylor, who fired past Arnett goalie Julian McLeish.

The remaining 25 minutes was completely dominated by Arnett, which launched dozens of attacks at Georges, but they were denied by outstanding goalkeeping from Robinson.

"We can make it to the end of round finals," said St Georges coach, Geoffrey Maxwell. "We are in a good position and stand a great chance of qualifying. Some of our key players are missing due to injury but I am hoping they will be back soon to strengthen the team."

Arnett's Davis said: "We played a better game in the second half. We had four clear scoring opportunities, but I must commend their goalkeeper for such an outstanding performance. He was the one that denied us three points."
