PANAMA CITY,
Panama (CMC):
Promising Jamaican featherweight boxer Nicholas Walters rushed to his fourth career win as a pro Thursday night when he stopped Javier Jiminez in the last round of their four-round non-title bout.
The 22-year-old Walters whipped the Panamanian Jiminez and forced the referee to stop the contest in the last round of the contest at Figali Convention Centre.
The bout was on the under-card of the World Boxing Association bantamweight title fight between Panama's Anselmo Moreno and Rolly Lunas.
With the win, Walters improved his ring record to 4-0 with three knockouts, while Jiminez slipped to three wins (two knockouts) against four defeats.
Walters, who built up a solid amateur record that included championship success at the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association tournament, turned pro in August after failing to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.
Impressed handlers
Under the current management of Haiti-based Jacques Deschamps, Walters has been based in Panama City where his handlers have been very impressed with his skills.
He scored a comfortable points win over Esteban Ramos on his pro debut on August 2 and made a quick return to the ring 2-1/2 weeks later to stop Panamanian Luis Gonzalez midway the second round of a scheduled four-rounder.
Unscathed by his two easy wins in August, Walters soon returned to the ring for a September 11 outing and needed less than one round to stop another local fighter Armando Carpintero.
Walters knocked out Carpintero at 1:51 of the first round and earned an appearance on Thursday night's world title card.
In the main event Thursday night, Moreno, a gym-mate of Walters, delighted his home fans with a classy victory over Lunas, of the Philippines.
