Reasons for murder

Ask a Jamaican living overseas who has lost several family members to acts of violence and crime, why wouldn't I want to see the death penalty restored in Jamaica.

I think it would put a stop or slow down the rate of murders committed for stupid reasons. What needs to be done is to find out the real reasons behind the murders and stop it by helping to solve these problems.

Only the guilty

I agree with bringing back the death penalty, but also to make sure the person going to die is 150 per cent guilty without a doubt; meaning the police have to start doing their job properly and investigating everything/everyone. The judges need to also make sure of that.

Crime is out of control completely, when women and children are targets. Women and children used to be off limits - bring that back to our society. Sweet, sweet Jamaica has gone sour. I want back the Jamaica I remember and not what it has become. I support the death penalty.

Not effective

I oppose the death penalty I because don't see where it prevents or reduces crime.

Support for the death penalty has always been strong in Texas, but the murder rate is still very high there.

Convicts are on death row up to 30 years before the punishment is administered. I think looking at four walls for the rest of your life is greater punishment than the death penalty.

Such venom

It is strange, but when the prime minister of Jamaica went on BBC TV and denounced gays and said none would ever be in his Cabinet, he didn't seem to extract such editorial venom as Waite did in his presentation to Parliament.

Criminal takeover

I am in agreement 100 per cent to bring back the death penalty in whatever way you want, but bring it back. Mr Phillips was wrong when he said it will not solve the crime problem. When the death penalty was in force Jamaica never had this level of crime.

Criminals have taken over Jamaica, I am a Jamaican living abroad and I don't want to come. Look what is happening in the Cayman Islands, and who? Jamaicans are known over the world for the wrong thing. Kill them, kill them, the sooner the better.
