Flagaman fancied
published: Friday | November 28, 2008

Orville Clarke, Gleaner Writer

With Pick-9 having taken a forced vacation at Caymanas Park on Wednesday by virtue of only eight races, it returns in its glory tomorrow with a carryover of $1 million.

The Pick-9 embraces races four to 12, while the programme will facilitate two Super-6s, the first from race one to six.

Three-cornered tussle

We look at the second Super-6 from race seven to 12. It gets under way with Division II of the Sunnyside Stakes for native bred maiden two-year-old fillies over 1200 metres, which will more than likely come down to a three-cornered tussle involving COURT YARD, ALLTHEBEST and the well-forward debutante REGENCY from the stables of Percy Hussey.

Preference, however, is for Ruth Hussey's REGENCY, a bay filly by Legal Process out of Lady Pakeezah, which makes her a half sister to the useful three-year-old colt MACHISMO. She has shown good speed at exercise and with the Hussey stable doing well with their two-year-olds, she gets the nod.

Next on the Supreme Ventures-sponsored programme is the Pick3 'Simple Ting Fi Win' Trophy for native bred three-year-olds over 1600 metres, to be contested by 12 starters.

Here, the horses to note are THE REAL FURY under in-form Dane Nelson, DOLLAR WIN with champion jockey Omar Walker aboard, PRINCESS JOYCE under Jason Simpson and MY THUNDER with competent 4.0kg claiming apprentice Everton Bennett aboard.

The ninth race over 1100 metres for the Pick-3 'Mix Dash' Trophy should come down to a straight fight between the recent winner MISS EILEEN (Walker up) and FLAGAMAN under visiting Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas.

It could go either way, but FLAGAMAN, having won over this trip in the smart time of 1:06.4 back in May, gets the vote, but only just.

Hard to catch

The speedy DOUBLE BOW, who prompted the pace for a long way in the recent CTL Caribbean Sprint Championship, will prove hard to catch now dropped in class for the 10th race (overnight allowance) over 1100 metres.

He can expect stiff opposition from TOBAGO, GRACE MARIE and ALNASKRA in the 14-strong field.

The day's feature, the $3-million Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy over 1400 metres has attracted 10 native bred two-year-olds, including top contenders MISS RUTH and BRUCEONTHE-LOOSE, first and second, respectively, in the October 18 Cash Pot 'Only One For Me' Trophy over 1200 metres, race number one in the lucrative Supreme Ventures two-year-old series.

Unbeaten in three starts, the Hussey-trained MISS RUTH (Cardenas up) has superior speed and will no doubt set off in front once again. She held on by 1 3/4 lengths to beat then favourite BRUCEONTHELOOSE in the Cash Pot Trophy, but given the additional furlong of tomorrow's race, 'Bruce' (Winston Griffiths up) is now expected to turn the tables.

Philip Feanny, who conditions BRUCEONTHELOOSE, has another strong contender in the improving WESTERN REPORT, a recent winner, who will not be far away at the end.
