T&T to play at Queen's Park Oval

Published: Thursday | December 4, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Newsday newspaper reported yesterday that the Trinidad and Tobago men's national team is more than likely to contest all six of its home matches in the final round of CONCACAF qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup at the Queen's Park Oval.

The newspaper said the decision stemmed from a recent government decision to implement a new venue agreement, and boldly request an increase to the seating capacity in the VIP section of the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Jack Warner, special advisor and substantive chief executive of the T&T Football Federation, said he was frustrated by the behaviour of the government.

Opening match

The newspaper quoted Warner as saying "(the Government) was behaving as though it owned the facility".

The final paperwork is being drafted for the deal to be completed well ahead of the Soca Warriors' opening match against El Salvador on February 11.

Warner added the move was also to avoid any distraction the national team might have during the final round of matches.
