What better way to keep warm on a late, chilly November evening in Stony Hill than with some nice, warm soup?

Members and friends of the Rotary Club of New Kingston couldn't agree more at their Soup-and- Mento Nite held at Mount Royal Close last Saturday. Past president, Lincoln Robinson, and wife Barbara, played host to the event, which was a self-serve, mix, mingle and have-a-good-time kind of evening, away from the city's traffic jams and loud music.

The Peacemakers Mento band provided the only music necessary for the event.Their mix of folk, rhythm and blues ballads, Christmas carols and even a little soca kept guests dancing by the terrace. Those not so fleet of foot, lymed by the balcony, dressed for the weather of course, catching up on all the latest, from the death penalty to cricket. It was good old Jamaican charm all evening as guests seemed reluctant to leave.

The soups were the big hits among the guests. There was a soup to fill every taste and satisfy all cravings. Even more enjoyable were the names: Front End Loader; Soar High Dive Deep Run Fast; This Man's Goat and Young Girl's Delight. Toss in other Jamaican delights such as chicken and pork, plus premium Jamaican alcohol, and it was all groovy.
