Jamaica Gleaner Letters
LETTER OF THE DAY - Call for nationwide electronic checkpoints
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE MAJOR challenge facing Jamaica today is not the economy, as some would believe, but the wanton killing of children, women and men with an indifference which seems unprecedented anywhere in the world during peacetime....
The Editor, Sir: I AM a Jamaican living in Canada and I have to say with every trip home to Jamaica I am concerned about my safety and that of my family. This sentiment is shared by many living abroad. I love Jamaica very much. However, I do not feel safe.
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT'S TIME that we change the name of that town in St Ann called Discovery Bay. Christopher Columbus did not discover Jamaica or anywhere. Civilised people were living here and everywhere Europeans went.
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD like to add to Rudy Robinson's comments ('Engi-neering and the UWI', letter of December 6), by stating that the idea of a campus at the other end of the island is a grand idea.
The Editor, Sir: I wish to congratulate Singer and their advertising agency on their wholesome advertising in 2008. It is my view that their promotions have been decent and exemplary - they have not served to denigrate women...
The Editor, Sir: This is what most persons unfamiliar with the genres of Jamaican music will think, not realising that reggae (which has a more laid back vibe, less beats per minute and more instruments) is different, much different from her egotistical...
The Editor, Sir:Jamaica is a developing country, there should be meaningful conversations on our streets, among our people, about improving Jamaica. However, many such conversations often deteriorate into quarrels.
Start rebuilding Jamaica from the community level
The Editor, Sir: I am rooting for this government to succeed, because failure is not an option. Jamaica is on the brink of a precipice and seems ready to topple over. Crime is engulfing us; the lack of discipline on the island is frightening.
