Big-scoring August Town face Mtn View
Published: Saturday | December 20, 2008
Former Premier League outfit, August Town, will battle Mountain View in today's feature game in the third round of the Kingston and St Andrew Foot-ball Association/Claro Super League competition, at the University of the West Indies Bowl, starting at 3 p.m.
In other games the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), who edged Duhaney Park 2-1 in their last encounter, face Maverley/Hugh-enden, who are still searching for their first win of the season, at Up Park Camp.
Cavalier will go in search of their second win, when they face Duhaney Park at Baldwin Crescent. Santos, who went down 1-0 to Cavalier last Saturday, host Bull Bay at Bell Chung Oval and Constant Spring, which outclassed Liguanea United 3-1 in their last game, host Real Mona at Constant Spring Complex.
August Town, who was demoted from the top flight last season, are bubbling with confidence, following six-nil victories over Real Mona and Liguanea, respectively, in the two games that they have played.
Despite his team prolific scoring form, their coach, Calvert Fitz-gerald, said there is still a lot of room for improvements.
"We are hoping to continue our momentum. However, I don't think that we are playing our best brand of football yet this season," he said. "Our aim is to get back into the Premier League and in order for us to achieve this we will have to be very consistent throughout this season and not get too over-confident or get too complacent," said Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald added: "We are pretty confident going up against Mountain View because we are just coming off a six-nil win over Real Mona and this has given our players a lot of energy heading into this encounter."
Leading the hunt
Strikers Donovan Hibbert and Nicholas McCreath, who have both scored eight goals between them this season, are expected to lead August Town's goal hunt.
According Dunstan Baker, manager of Mountain View, who are yet to register a point from two games this season, they "...are hurting from the fact that number of the senior players have retired from the game and we are struggling to find suitable replacements".
Baker added: "We are going to give a good account of ourselves because we will be having two of our senior players back for this match and we have also managed to do well whenever we play August Town at home.
"I think it is going to be a very exciting match because even though most of our players are below the age of 20 and are inexperienced at this level, I believe they are learning the game very quickly and are going to give a good account of themselves."
Meanwhile, as part of its sponsorship deal, Claro representatives will be on location to display their products, as well as provide information on their Christmas Promotion, at the feature match, where they will also be prize giveaways.
