Life without Christians?

The Editor, Sir:

These Christians are really beginning to get on my nerves. In everything we try to do, there they are with their 'scriptures' and 'beliefs' and 'God, Jesus and the Hallelujah Chorus'.

Now what do the children have to look forward to? Who cares about the birth of their Saviour! Saviour from what? The kids already have their superheroes. In fact, the story isn't even a good one. Compared to krypton, spider bites and experiments gone wrong, this manger thing is pretty lame.

And a virgin pregnancy? I suppose that could work if there was an omnipotent God. But because we know there isn't, they should really come clean. Our society is much more accepting of pre-marital sex now. We understand. 'Mistakes' happen and we know how to deal with those 'mistakes' now.

Did you hear what the Pope said? He could spend another lifetime studying his mythological text; he has no right to say we will suffer for blurring gender.

Big bang theory

I really thought we had settled this. Life started with a random, unplanned, unscripted big bang. We owe no reverence and obligation to what made us. Nothing made us. It is all chance. We are men or women by chance. But we can easily just switch that around. In fact, scientists are perfecting the procedure as we speak.

Once upon a time the Christians were very useful. We appreciated their lessons on freedom, community and brotherly love. The driving beliefs were naive but they were helping us out. They educated the poor, cared for the sick and fed the hungry.

But now that we understand fully that we are indeed free and capable, their work is done. We are well on our way to creating our perfect world with no help from this mythological God.

In just a little while, mankind will vaguely recall their predictions and prophecies and shake our heads. How could intelligent beings ever have believed such extensive absurdity?

I am, etc.,
