Letter of the Day - Brute force can't win peace
The Editor, Sir: As I reflect on the Gaza conflict, the thought that keeps coming to mind is that peace cannot be won through the use of brute force. Whenever force is used, one party, usually the weaker one, will retreat, re-arm, only to gain strength to fight again later.

Hang all child molesters
The Editor, Sir: The man convicted of murdering the three children in St Mary, in January 2005, has become the first person to be sentenced to hang since the both Houses of Parliament voted to retain the death penalty in Jamaica.

Lessons from our neighbours
The Editor, Sir: Despite the fact that Jamaica was one of the first Caribbean nations to gain independence and during the 1960s and 1970s was a beacon of hope for many Third-World countries, the tide has turned dramatically and we are now the ones who need to look to our neighbours.

Inadequate Obama analysis
The Editor, Sir: In her January 17 letter, Kay Osbourne of Television Jamaica proclaims the coming of the Obama presidency like it was the second coming of Christ! No doubt Osbourne means well, but her apparent insights into what change a mixed-race American in the White House will bring are more than a little naïve.

Use garbage to generate wealth
The Editor, Sir: Jamaicans will soon begin to feel the real effects of the global financial meltdown. However, we in Jamaica can 'tun wi han and mek fashion'.
