Brown ... three for 53.
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):
Champions Jamaica grab-bed three wickets and dominated Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) during the brief playing time on a rain-ruined second day of their WICB Regional Four-day match yesterday.
From an overnight 145 for four, T&T had stuttered to 189 for seven when rain stopped play before lunch and prevented any action in the last two sessions.
Play called off
Umpires Khemraj Barrasingha and Goland Greaves called off play at 4:30 p.m. local time and short-staffed T&T now need strong lower-order batting resistance to give themselves a good chance in a game that is now on course for a first-innings decision only.
The bad weather that plagued the opening day - when they lost two hours and 38 minutes of playing time - surfaced again early on day two and rain chased the players off the field just over half an hour after the early start to make up for Friday's lost time.
Jamaica began positively when leg-spinner Odean Brown crucially removed Sherwin Ganga (7) and wicket-keeper Gibran Mohammed (0) with consecutive balls as T&T slid to 151 for six from their overnight 145 for four.
Ganga, the 26-year-old brother of team captain Daren Ganga, had added only three to his overnight score when Danza Hyatt clutched a bat/pad chance at silly mid-on.
Brown then sent back the left-handed Mohammed first ball, caught behind.
Richard Kelly - playing forward, defensively - prevented the hat-trick and, with Darren Bravo, took the score to 172 for six when rain stopped play at 10:14 a.m. for an hour.
The pair had a seventh-wicket stand of 38, propelled by Kelly's big hitting that included two gigantic sixes off Brown over the long-on boundary.
But the home side lost Bravo just before another rain stoppage at 11:30 a.m. The 19-year-old left-hander played across a delivery from leg-spinner Gavin Wallace and was trapped leg before wicket for 35 as short-staffed T&T dipped to 189 for seven.
Injured player
T&T's other concern as the game moves into day three Sunday is that they are without all-rounder Rayad Emrit. He suffered a broken arm during an impromptu net session in Friday's rain break.
Bowling for Jamaica, Brown has so far picked up three for 53 off 22 overs, while Dave Bernard (2-20), Andre Russell (1-20) and Wallace (1-28) have picked up the other wickets.
IN GRENADA: Barbados, sent in to bat by the Windward Islands, reached 389 for eight at the close on a rain-ravaged second day.
Scores: Barbados 389 for eight (Ryan Hinds 89, Sulieman Benn 76, Jonathan Carter 49, not out, Kemar Roach 51, not out, Dale Richards 37, Patrick Browne 30; Shane Shillingford 4-85, Rawle Lewis 2-61).
