Urinary problems in men

Dear Dr Williams-Green,

I read with curiosity your article on urinary problems in men and though I seldom reply to what I read, this time I feel compelled to consult you. The symptoms which you outlined are exactly what I have been experiencing in the last few years.

I am a 57-year-old male who does not relish the idea of surgery, except in extreme circumstances such as accidents. I presume, though, that you are of the medical fraternity and, therefore, would frown on my attendant sensitivities. I do have an enlarged prostate, the last time I checked. The burning has slowed but I experience extreme pain during ejaculation.

However, my question to you is, are you aware of any home remedies or natural herbal applications that can help to reduce the enlarged prostate? I look forward to your reply.

Dear Sir,

I can understand your fear of the surgical blade. However, you can only treat the problem when you find out the cause. A large prostate may result from simple ageing or a sinister process. Herbal treatments can reduce the size of a large prostate, but if cancer is present, this will not be treated and may have dire consequences. So please visit your family doctor for an examination and tests to determine the cause of your urinary problems.

Best wishes.

- Dr Pauline Williams-Green

I don't feel normal

Dear Dr Abel,

I am sick and I do not feel like I am normal. I have an intelligent lady hidden inside me which cannot get to come out because I am suffering some kind of mental illness. I need help.

Sometimes I feel so demotivated when it comes to getting to a health-care facility. My entire life is confusing. I just need help. I am serious and I am not one who is playing. Maybe God can use you to help me. Thanks.

Dear Reader

It does appear you are having a mental-health problem. In order to ascertain the nature of your problem, we would have to do a full evaluation. The good news is that most mental disorders are treatable. I, therefore, encourage you to see your doctor or a psychiatrist.
